Background and Reference

The development of Formula 4 Leadership has been a lengthy process drawing upon the experience and background of Michael Lock and
Bob Wheeler. They wish to acknowledge the assistance received from colleagues, clients and participants in workshops and training events without whose insights and reactions, this would be a much less rich and valuable approach.

There are many documentary sources over the years that the two co-founders have used and assimilated in developing their thoughts on leadership. There are two main sources that have been explicitly referred to in the development. The works of Professor Vroom have had a significant impact, as found in Vroom, V. H., & Jago, A. G. (1988). "The New Leadership: Managing Participation in Organisations". New Jersey: Prentice Hall. Similarly, Hersey and Blanchard's Situational Leadership approach has also guided some of their thinking, as found in Hersey, P. (1984) "The Situational Leader". New York: Warner Books.
