At Formula 4 Leadership, we have a fundamental belief that the effectiveness of a leader can be developed. This is true whether the leadership position is a formal or an informal one and whether the individual has the position as a result of their own proactivity or by the actions of others. Whilst their approach will be influenced by personality, ability and behaviour, it is possible for a leader to gear his or her style in a way so as to improve performance.
If people in leadership roles engage in appropriate analysis of the context in which they are engaging with their colleagues, any person can learn how to become more effective. In essence, therefore, the model underpinning the LJI holds that behavioural change in a leader can improve effectiveness. Moreover, it offers a set of principles to enable a leader to gear that behaviour to the needs of the situation.
Our assessment materials, such as the LJI, are designed to assess how people deal with practical real-life decision making situations. Our products and services summarised in this Development section of the website are all geared to help with what we think of as the “so what?” question. An individual has an assessment of their leadership capability, perhaps using the LJI, perhaps using feedback from colleagues, perhaps just a question of their own self image. The challenge then becomes “so what am I going to do about it?” The exciting part is helping people answer that question!
